Our service is free for you because lenders and partners may pay us. Here is how that compensation works and what it does and does not change.

How we make money
Lenders and marketing partners in our network may pay us when we refer a request to them, when a request is matched, or when a borrower completes a loan. That compensation keeps the service free for consumers.
Payment arrangements differ by partner. Some pay a set amount for each request they receive, some pay only when a request matches their criteria, and some pay when a loan is funded. We do not receive any part of the interest you pay to a lender.
- Referral fees for passing along a request.
- Fees for matched or accepted requests.
- Fees from marketing partners that work with lenders on our behalf.
The amount a partner pays can vary with the loan amount, the state, the time of day and how many partners are bidding for similar requests. None of these payments is added to your loan, and you never pay us directly.
How compensation can affect which lenders appear
Compensation can influence which lenders see your request, the order in which offers appear and which lenders are part of our network at all. Lenders that do not pay us are generally not included.
Our network does not include every lender or every loan product available to you. A bank, a credit union where you already have an account or another online lender may offer terms that are better for your situation. We encourage you to compare an offer from our network with at least one outside option before you sign.
Lender eligibility rules also shape results. A lender may only serve certain states, amounts, income levels or credit profiles, so two people with the same request may see different lenders.
When we describe a type of loan or show example payments on a guide page, those examples use the same stated APR and term for every reader. They are not tied to any one lender, and they are not ranked by how much a lender pays.
What compensation does not change
Compensation does not change the cost of using our service, which is free, and it does not change what our guides say about APRs, fees, risks or alternatives to borrowing.
- There is no fee to submit a request or review offers.
- You are under no obligation to accept any offer.
- Our editors write guides on costs and risks without input from lenders.
- Payment examples use stated APRs and terms and are labeled as estimates.
Read our editorial standards to see how guides are written and reviewed.
We are not a lender
We are a free loan-matching service, not a lender. We do not make credit decisions, fund loans, set APRs or terms, or collect payments. Every rate and term you see belongs to the lender.
Lenders in the network typically offer $500 to $5,000 over 6 to 36 months, with APRs that may range from 5.99% to 35.99% (est.). Some charge an origination fee of 0% to 8%. Approval, amount and timing are set by the lender and are never promised. Availability varies by state.
No connection to any credit union
We are not affiliated with Great Meadow Federal Credit Union and we are not a credit union of any kind. We do not offer memberships, savings accounts, checking accounts or share certificates.
Because we do not take deposits, nothing you do on this site creates a deposit account, and nothing here is insured by the NCUA or the FDIC. If you are looking for a credit union account, contact that institution directly.
