How the great meadow credit calculator estimates your payment
The great meadow credit calculator uses the standard amortization formula: it converts the APR into a monthly rate and finds the single fixed payment that repays the amount, plus interest on the shrinking balance, by the last month of the term.
In words, the calculation works like this. First, the APR is divided by 12 to get a monthly rate, so 24.99% becomes about 2.08% a month. Next, the calculator works out how much one payment is worth spread across every month of the term at that rate. Finally, it divides the personal loan amount you borrow by that figure, which gives a payment that stays the same from the first month to the last.
Each month, interest is charged on the principal you still owe, and the rest of the payment reduces that principal. Early payments are mostly interest; later payments are mostly principal. Total interest is simply the monthly payment multiplied by the number of months, minus the amount borrowed. Every result is an estimate of a fixed-rate personal loan, not an offer.

Worked personal loan payment examples
At 24.99% APR, a $2,000 personal loan over 12 months comes to an estimated $190.08 a month, $2,280.94 repaid and $280.94 in interest. Smaller amounts and shorter terms cost less interest in total, which is true of great meadow loans at any rate.
Representative example
- Amount
- $2,000
- Term
- 12 months
- APR
- 24.99%
- Monthly payment
- $190.08 (est.)
- Total repaid
- $2,280.94 (est.)
- Total interest
- $280.94 (est.)
In month one, about $41.65 of the $190.08 payment is interest and the rest reduces principal. By month twelve, almost the whole payment goes to principal.
A smaller request changes the picture quickly. A $1,000 personal loan over 12 months at the same APR is about $95.04 a month with $140.47 in interest (est.). At the top of the range, $5,000 over 36 months is about $198.77 a month, but interest climbs to roughly $2,155.82 (est.). Amount pages show more detail for a $1,000 loan and a $5,000 loan.
A lower APR matters too. At 19.99% instead of 24.99%, $1,000 over 12 months drops to about $92.63 a month, and $5,000 over 36 months drops to about $185.79 a month (est.). People comparing great meadow loans often run both rates to see the range they might land in.
03
How the loan term changes total interest
On any personal loan, a longer term lowers the monthly payment but raises total interest, because the balance stays outstanding for more months. On $2,000 at 24.99% APR, moving from 12 to 36 months cuts the payment by more than half but triples the interest.
| Term | Monthly payment (est.) | Total interest (est.) | Total repaid (est.) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 months | $358.05 | $148.28 | $2,148.28 |
| 12 months | $190.08 | $280.94 | $2,280.94 |
| 18 months | $134.37 | $418.73 | $2,418.73 |
| 24 months | $106.73 | $561.59 | $2,561.59 |
| 36 months | $79.51 | $862.33 | $2,862.33 |
The same pattern holds at every amount. A $2,500 personal loan costs about $351.18 in interest over 12 months and about $1,077.91 over 36 months (est.), so see the $2,500 loan page for payment options in between. A useful rule: choose the shortest term whose payment still fits comfortably in your monthly budget, with some room left for surprises.
Paying early can also help. Many personal loan lenders allow payoff before the end of the term without a penalty, so a borrower who picks 24 months for safety but pays extra when possible can bring total interest closer to the shorter-term figure. Check the agreement for a prepayment clause first.
04
How origination fees change the real cost
On a personal loan, an origination fee of 0% to 8% is often subtracted from the money you receive, so you repay the full amount while getting less cash. The calculator shows payments on the full amount; subtract the fee to see what actually reaches your account.
Take the representative example with a 5% origination fee. The fee on $2,000 is $100, so about $1,900 arrives in your checking account. You still repay an estimated $2,280.94, which means the cost of using $1,900 for a year is about $380.94: $280.94 in interest plus the $100 fee. A lender's quoted APR already includes the fee, which is why APR is the fairer number for comparing personal loan offers from great meadow lending partners.
- No fee: you receive the full $2,000 and the payment estimate stands as shown.
- 3% fee: $60 is deducted and about $1,940 arrives.
- 5% fee: $100 is deducted and about $1,900 arrives.
- 8% fee: $160 is deducted and about $1,840 arrives.
If a bill must be paid in full, size your great meadow credit request to cover the bill after fees. To net $2,000 with a 5% fee, you would need to borrow about $2,105, and the payment would rise slightly above the estimate for $2,000.

What a great meadow credit estimate cannot know
The calculator cannot know the APR, fee, amount or term a personal loan lender will actually offer you. Those depend on your credit history, income, existing debts and state rules, which only a lender's review can assess.
- Your actual APR: lenders in our network show APRs from about 5.99% to 35.99%, and your rate could fall anywhere in that range or outside it.
- Fees: the calculator does not include origination fees, late fees or other charges in the payment estimate.
- Approval: a payment that fits your budget does not mean a lender will make a personal loan offer.
- State differences: some states cap fees or limit amounts, so terms vary by where you live.
- Payment timing: the formula assumes 12 equal months a year; lenders that count interest daily can show slightly different figures.
Treat the results as a planning tool. Great meadow lending requests produce offers based on real underwriting, and only the lender's offer and loan agreement show the numbers you would actually pay.

Next steps after estimating a personal loan
Once you have a payment that fits your budget, check the typical requirements, read how APR ranges work, and send a free great meadow credit request if you want to see actual offers from lenders in our network.
- Write down the amount you need, the longest term you would accept and the highest payment your budget can carry.
- Read the guide to APR ranges to understand where your credit profile might land.
- Confirm you meet the basic requirements: age 18 or older (19 in AL and NE), US residency, regular income, a checking account, ID and SSN.
- Submit one great meadow credit request and compare any offers by APR and total repaid, not just the monthly payment.
There is no fee to submit great meadow loans requests and no obligation to accept an offer. If a personal loan offer's payment is higher than your estimate, you can ask the lender about a smaller amount or a different term, or simply walk away.
FAQ
Questions people ask
Is the calculator result the payment I will get?
No. The result is an estimate based on the amount, term and APR you enter. A lender sets the real APR, fees and term after reviewing your request, so an actual offer can be higher or lower.
Why does a longer term cost more if the payment is lower?
Interest on a personal loan is charged every month on the balance you still owe. A longer term keeps that balance outstanding for more months, so more interest builds up even though each payment is smaller.
What APR should I enter in the calculator?
The default of 24.99% is a midpoint example. If your credit is strong, try a lower figure such as 12% or 15%; if it is fair or limited, try 30% or higher to see a cautious estimate within the range lenders in our network show.
